Training through the eyes of the trainer – a first-person perspective The Embody Cam by Focus XR offers a 360-degree worker’s perspective, enhancing learning with realistic, immersive experiences. See intricate procedures up close!
When it comes to creating high-quality, immersive learning experiences, the Production team at FocusXR utilises a variety of specialised filming techniques. Here are some of the key methods they employ:
Embody Cam
Focus XR has developed a unique “Embody Cam” – a collar-mounted 360-degree camera system that captures footage from the perspective of the worker or trainer. This allows students to truly embody the role they are learning about, further enhancing the realism and immersion.
The Embody Cam, mounted on the trainer or worker, allows students to see exactly what the worker sees and experience the task from their perspective. This is particularly useful for demonstrating delicate or intricate procedures, such as an engineer troubleshooting an electrical system or a welder performing a specific welding technique. The first-person viewpoint helps students better understand the physical movements and decision-making process involved in the job.
By utilising these diverse filming techniques, Focus XR can create engaging, multi-dimensional learning experiences that transport students into the heart of real-world work environments. This helps students understand and appreciate the skills and challenges of various industries and job roles.
Drone Footage
FocusXR uses drone cameras to capture sweeping aerial perspectives of work environments and job sites. This allows students to gain a bird’s-eye view of complex settings, helping them better understand the scale and layout of these spaces.
Drone cameras can capture aerial footage of large-scale industrial sites, construction projects, or renewable energy facilities. This aerial perspective allows students to visualise these complex work environments’ overall layout and scale, which would be difficult to convey through ground-level filming alone. The drone footage gives students a better understanding of the job site’s spatial relationships and context.
Fixed 360-Degree Cameras
Fixed 360-degree cameras, such as the Ricoh Theta X and Insta360, record fully immersive 360-degree video footage. This provides students with an actual first-person perspective of the work environment.
360-degree cameras can record the whole environment in real time—the immersive video of a technician performing maintenance on machinery or equipment. By capturing the full 360-degree view, students can look around the environment and follow along with the technician’s movements, providing an actual first-person experience. This helps students develop vital spatial awareness and familiarity with the work setting.
