APPLIED DRAMA – 360 COURSES
Project
Alpha Homes, Curo Training and Ty Maur Care Facilities
We produced a suite of content for students studying health and social care. Getting experience working in a care or residential care facility is very difficult. And it’s especially difficult for them to appreciate what it means to witness negative behaviours such as neglect and abuse.
Focus XR created actor-led role-play learning modules that model bad and good practices. These applied drama scenarios where actors roleplay situations that professionals can experience. Focus XR produced content demonstrating how to get people in and out of hoists, wheelchairs, and beds.
Students can see the signs of good and bad working practices, red flags, what they should do, and their reporting duties in these situations. Focus XR puts them in the room and in scenarios that enable them to experience dementia patients, dealing with people at different stages of their lives and their needs. These challenging environments can often be difficult to cope with if new employees don’t have first-hand experience, and to experience and familiarise people with what to expect to find is a supportive way to induct employees and gain this vital experience.

Benefits to Care Homes
Alpha homes, Curo training and Ty Maur Care facilities can create videos that help induct their staff. Staff can be assessed to ensure learning points have been reinforced and understood before moving to more advanced content. Staff training times are reduced by producing best practice content that can be reused and re-edited as part of the continuous improvement of staff training.
Benefits to Care Home Staff
Watching and re-watching applied drama settings increases knowledge and experience in dealing with difficult scenarios. The protocols and best practices are documented within the films to help staff understand what they should do in certain situations. Continuous professional development (CPD) can be achieved outside the workplace or during working hours through assessed learning video modules.
